      Charles “Charlie” Maas, age 82 of West Salem, IL passed from this life to the next on October 3, 2020.
      Charlie was born on April 19, 1938 in Edwards County to Emmett and Mildred (Schmidt) Maas.
      He was a Veteran who served his country in the US Army.
      On July 3, 1982, he was united in marriage and he and Martha enjoyed several years until her passing on June 1, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Jack, one sister, Virginia and one sister-in-law, Dona Maas.
      Charlie was a long-time member of the West Salem Moravian Church.
      He worked for several years in maintenance at Champion Laboratories and when he wasn’t working, hunting was on the agenda! In fact, he lived to hunt and every vacation time was planned around hunting seasons. Charlie hunted anything and everything in several states and Canada.
      He is survived by his children: Bill (Trish) Maas of Olney, IL, Julie (Don) Rigg of Mt. Carmel, IL, and Brian (Melanie) Maas of Albion, IL, one brother Don Maas of West Salem, 6 grandchildren:
      Kelly (Wesley) Sanders of Mt Carmel, Kyle (Ronda) Rigg of Mt. Carmel, Kole (Shelby) Rigg of St. Charles, MO, Monica (Kevin) Terry of Albion, Ben (Natalie) Maas of Albion and Kieffer Maas of Olney. He is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren: Julianna, Harrison, Jayden, Skylar, Kolby, Mayleigh, Nolan and Cooper.
      A Graveside Service will be held at 1PM on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at the Moravian Cemetery in West Salem. Family and friends are asked to dress casually. Military Rites will be conducted and there will be opportunity for viewing, paying final respects and greeting the family.
      Memorials are encouraged to the Oakview Heights Activity Fund, the Edwards County Senior Citizens and the Moravian Cemetery Fund.

      Charlie was my Momma’s supervisor for many years at Champ. He was such a sweet man. He came to see my Momma when she was at my house ,before she passed and they both shared some stories and some tears . Praying for the whole family 🙏🏻

      Quinn and I are very sorry to hear of his passing. He was a wonderful man to have known. He didn’t always show it but he had a big heart. You all are in our thoughts and prayers.

      So very sorry to hear about Charlie, he was such a fun guy. I remember going hunting with him and my dad. (David garner). He will be truly missed.
