Charles E. "Old Soldier" Cornish, 86, of Lebanon, IL, died May 6, 2008 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Belleville, IL. He was born in Hebron, MD to Charles W. and Mazzie Jane, nee Gale, Cornish. He married Ramona K. Abbitt March 5, 1949 in Chicago, IL.
He is survived by his wife, Ramona K. Cornish of Lebanon, IL; five sons and three daughters, Charles W. (Iris) Cornish, Suisan City, CA; Wilson R. Cornish, Lebanon, IL; Walter E. Cornish, O'Fallon, IL; Regina K. Weatherall, Springfield, IL; Cathryn E. (Raymond) Hernandez, Moore, OK; Andree G. Cornish, Lebanon, IL; George G.G. (Robin) Cornish, Kewanee, IL; Tsgt. Kimberson S. (Zenaida) Cornish, Moses City, LA, a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, one brother, Thomas (Ann) Wilson, Waldorf, MD; one sister, Rose Ann Burrell, Salisbury, MD.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Carla R. Cornish, and several brothers and sisters.
A Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, retiring after 30 years, and 10 years in the Post Office and also worked on Highway construction on I-64.
Memberships include Hope Christian Church, Belleville, IL; VFW, Scott AFB, Masonic Lodge.
Visitation: Friday, May 9, 2008 from 6:00-9:00 pm at Meyer Funeral Home, Lebanon, IL.
Funeral: Saturday, May 10, 2008 @ Hope Christian Church, Belleville, IL with the Rev. Patricia Whitley, Pastor officiating. Burial in College Hill Cemetery, Lebanon, IL.
