    Carl W. Brooks, 91, of Lebanon, IL, died Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at his residence surrounded by his family.

    Carl was born March 30, 1928, to William Arthur and Mable (nee Crummer) Brooks, in Lebanon, IL. On September 21, 1957 he married Charlotte Killion, and they were married for 61 years.

    He was a member of the Mason’s. Carl played in the Negro League, and for the Kansas City Monarchs. He loved to listen to music, while sitting in his bar in his basement and enjoyed watching Westerns. Gathering with his family was one of his greatest joys.

    He is survived by his son, Ronald Johnson, Lebanon, IL; daughter, Sharon (Addison) Carter, California; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sister, Ora L. Hughes, Lebanon, IL; several nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mable Brooks; wife, Charlotte Brooks; son, Craig Brooks; grandson, ReJon Brooks; brothers, LaVern Brooks, James Brooks, Ray Brooks; sisters, Bernice Catchings, Ethel Johnson.

    Visitation: Private

    Funeral Service: Private

    Interment: Private at College Hill Cemetery.

    A Memorial Service will take place at a later date.

    I always enjoyed talking to Carl at my stepdad’s shop – Charlie Mohme Auto Repair, when I was in high school. Carl always had a story or a joke to tell. My condolences to the family.

    Chick was a GREAT Man. Didn’t know too many strangers. He was well known in town. I have a picture of him with my grandson by a backhoe when he was working in Adam’s Estates in Lebanon. Whenever I saw him he would make you smile. He was a friend to all. Rest in Peace Chick !

    I send my love and heartfelt sympathy to the family of Carl Brooks. Carl was always one of the nicest people I’ve ever known. He and his late brother, Ray, were like personal bodyguards to my late brother Wendell Mitchell. They never allowed anyone to bully my brother. He absolutely loved both of them. Some of my fondest memories of my childhood revolve around Carl. He loved music and was a great dancer. I loved dancing with Carl down at Buster’s place in Lebanon. His sister, OraLee, and I graduated from LCHS together in 1952. I shall always remember Carl as a gentle, respectful young man with one of the greatest smiles. May he rest in eternal peace.     My condolences to the Brooks family. Carl was my dad’s best friend. Most people callEd my dad Tink Randalls .Carl was always nice to me and my brothers, Charles and Jerome Randalls. This family has had tragedy in this past year with the loss of Charlotte, Craig, and Carl. Keeping Sharon and Ronnie in my prayer.
