    LYLE ALLEN, 70, of Johnsonville, Illinois, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2019 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.

    Lyle was born April 7, 1949, in Orchard Township to Eber ‘Everett’ and Norma Louise (Ellis) Allen. He married Marjorie Burroughs December 28, 1965 in Cisne, Illinois.

    Lyle was a farmer. He also bought and sold cars with A & E Auto Sales, owned Country Crossroads Store, and worked with cattle his whole life.

    Lyle is survived by his wife Marjorie Allen of Johnsonville, Illinois, one daughter Lila (Harold) Flexter and two sons Leon (Gloria) Allen and Lee (Geri) Allen all of Johnsonville, Illinois; grandchildren Jenny (Aaron Dunn) Tannahill, Jake (Bethany) Tannahill, Theron (Alicia) Flexter all of Johnsonville, Illinois, Wilson Flexter of Herrin, Illinois, Mallory Allen of Johnsonville, Illinois, Lauren (Jonah Woomer) Allen of Flora, Illinois, Brock Allen of Johnsonville, Illinois, Lane Allen of Johnsonville, Illinois and Taylor Gossett of West Frankfort; and nine great grandchildren.

    Preceding him is death were his parents and his miniature pincher Marty.

    Funeral service will be 10:00am Friday May 3, 2019 at Pleasant Hill (Needmore) Christian Church. Visitation will be 5:00pm – 8:00pm Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Hosselton-Meridith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill (Needmore) Cemetery.

    Memorials may be directed to Pleasant Hill (Needmore) Christian Church or Providence General Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.

    To the Lyle Allen Family:
    I was saddened to hear of Lyle’s passing. I grew up with Lyle and was in the same grade with him throughout Grade School and High School. Lyle was always an astute businessman and even recall
    Him talking about his cattle back in the first grade.
    Even though his mon had his hair in a Toni, he would pull out a chew of Beechnut while discussing his cattle business. No doubt he carried on that skill through this life and I was always proud of him. My deepest sympathies to Marjorie

    This is what I remember most about Lyle. My best childhood friend in younger years & remained a great friend as we became older, Peggy Harrell Clark, would come to my brother, Jerry Donoho & my home when mine & Jerry’s parents would be gone.
    Lyle was a good friend of Jerry’s, so he would be there also. The 4 of us were always doing some kind of mischief!
    Peggy & I were older than Jerry & Lyle, but we would measure how my moms car was parked, then Peggy & I would take off in the car. It did not need a key! Would bring it back to make sure the car was parked as close as we could get it to the original place! We played hide & seek in the cornfields & was always having fun.
    This is the Lyle I remember mostly.
