    Betty G. Smith, 90, of Pocahontas, IL, died Thursday, April 18, 2019, at San Gabriel Memory Care, Highland, IL, with her family by her side.

    Betty was born September 22, 1928, to Bruno and Anna (nee Stoffel) Bargetzi, in Highland, IL. In August 1947, she married William B. “Smitty” Smith in St. Jacob, IL.

    She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Highland, IL. For many years, she volunteered at Pocahontas-Old Ripley Fire Department and American Legion in Pocahontas.

    Betty was an avid reader, liked to cook for her children and grandchildren, and loved her time with family especially her grandchildren. She helped her husband in his business, Smitty’s Auto Repair in Pocahontas, running for parts many days. She graduated from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing with an Associate Degree. She worked at St. Joseph Hospital in Highland, IL.

    She is survived by her Children, Preston (Sharon) Smith, Greenville, IL, and Marci Slape, Pocahontas, IL; Grandchildren, Jeffrey Smith, Shelly (Kevin) Forys, Stephanie (Greg) Birckbichler, Tim (Dr. Tara Nattrass) Slape, Erin (Donnie) Smith, Tara (Jon) Thompson; Great Grandchildren, Madeline, Mallory, Jacqueline, Bradley, Emma, Bryant, Elise, Everett, Elora, Baxter; Step Grandsons, Daryn (Julie) Unterbrink, Steven (Chrystal) Unterbrink; Step Great Grandchildren, Kaylee, Emily, Kortney, Riley, Bailey.

    She was preceded in death by her Father, Bruno Bargetzi; Mother, Annie Bargetzi; Husband, William B. “Smitty” Smith; Brothers, Clarence Bargetzi, Walter Bargetzi.

    Memorials may be made to the Pocahontas-Old Ripley Fire Department or Pocahontas Elementary School.

    Visitation: Monday, April 22, 2019, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, at Meridith Funeral Home, Pocahontas, IL

    Funeral Service: Monday, April 22, 2019, 1:00 pm, at Meridith Funeral Home, Pocahontas, IL.

    Clergy: Rev. Dave Trover, Retired Pastor, United Methodist Church.

    Interment: Robinson Cemetery.
