    Carroll Albert Stanhope, 91, of Albion, IL, passed from this life to the next on Monday, April 1, 2019 at his home.

    He was born September 8, 1927 in Browns, IL to Frank F. and Carrie St. Clair (Berry) Stanhope. He married Alma Doris (Sailer) on August 4, 1951 at the First Methodist Church in Carmi, IL and she survives.

    Carroll graduated from Albion High School in 1945 and from Eastern Illinois State College, now Eastern Illinois University, in 1949. He taught at both West Salem and Edwards County Sr. High School, retiring in 1985 after 36 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Albion and enjoyed antiquing in his retirement years.

    He is survived by his wife of almost 68 years, Alma; one daughter, Kay Stanhope of Evansville, IN; two sons: Kent (Gena) Stanhope of Albion and Kris (Natalie) Stanhope of Browns, IL; four grandchildren: Sydney (Nick) Gracyalny of Albion, Emma Garcia of Albion, Ean Stanhope of Evansville, IN, and Lydia Stanhope of Ft. Myers, FL; and four great-grandchildren: Sophie, Gideon, Maggie, and Emmett.

    Carroll was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Greg Albert Stanhope.

    Visitation will be held Friday, April 5, 2019 from 10 a.m. until noon at Ingram-Meridith Funeral Home in Albion. The funeral service will be held at noon at the funeral home with burial to follow in Graceland Cemetery.

    Memorials may be made to the ECTA, for the Edwards County Teachers Association Scholarship Fund, and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

    I fondly remember mr. Stanhope as an excellent teacher. He was always nice and helpful to his students. Prayers to his family and especially my classmate Kay. Very sorry for your loss. He was a good man.

    We both had the great privilege of learning from Mr Stanhope. A gentler person you will not find. Enjoyed seeing him at auctions since his retirement. Condolences to Alta, Kay, Kent, and Kris.

    Mr Stanhope was, my physics and chemistry teacher in high school. He was so patient and always had a smile on his face. He never failed to stop and speak to me when I saw him out in public. He was definitely one of the best.

    I have fond memories of Mr. Stanhope as my Chemistry and Physics teacher, as well as his interest in photography. A gentle man. My sympathies and prayers with the family.
