    Gene Baker, age 88 of West Salem, IL passed from this life to the next on February 15, 2019 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital, Olney, IL.
    Gene was born on September 8, 1930 in Hammond, IN to Irvin and Mary (Lamar) Baker.
    He married Wilma Moore on February 24, 1951 in Gary, IN and she preceded him in death on March 3, 2011.
    He was also preceded by his parents and one son, David Baker.

    Gene enjoyed fishing and was an avid hunter. He was a caring, loving and hardworking father who loved his family very much.

    Left to cherish fond memories are his daughter Diane (and husband Rick) York, son Doug (and wife Laurie) Baker, sister Patricia Rothrock, daughter-in-law Judi Baker, 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and his beloved poodle, Suzie.

    A visitation will be held from 5 to 7PM on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Ingram-Meridith Funeral Home in West Salem, IL
    Funeral service will be held at 1PM on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville, IN with burial immediately following.

    Memorials may be made to Good New Productions, which is a foreign mission project that Gene supported.

    I’m so sorry for your loss , Gene was a wonderful man , i loved
    his smile an his laugh.. He loved to tease , something i could always count on when i seen him .. I’ll never forget him or his daughter an son . My heart and prayers go out to you all ..     So sorry for your loss!! Gene was a wonderful man and will be missed by many!! As Deb said we could always count on him to put a smile on our faces and lift our spirits no matter what kind of day he’d had. It was an honor to get to know him and help him on his journey. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers in the coming days!!
