  • Full Obituary

Roger G. Baum, 78, of Lebanon, IL, died Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL, after succumbing to complications of esophageal cancer.

Roger was born May 20, 1940 in Highland, IL to George and Melba (nee Willman) Baum.  On December 15, 1973 he married Wanda Lynn Meddows.

Roger’s most precious love, was his wife Wanda, who died suddenly in 1989.  He carried a high school photo of Wanda in his wallet until the day he died.  Roger was a union finish carpenter and master woodworker who could make and do anything.  His favorite hobbies included crafting tables, clocks, lamps, and cutting boards, but he was well known for his peppermills.  Roger would help anyone and was a wise mentor to many.  He enjoyed helping his young friends with their Cub Scouts Pinewood Derby cars and Rain Gutter Regatta boats.  Vegetable and flower gardening were also favorite pastimes. After a hard day’s work, Roger would relax with a gin martini on his patio, while watching the hummingbirds and butterflies visit his flowers.   He had a great appreciation of photography and liked taking pictures of his many flowers and nature.  Roger was known to “patrol” the community in his truck and kept tabs on what was happening in Lebanon.  Roger was a lifelong member and supporter of St. Paul UCC and believed in the church and its teachings.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Melba Baum; wife, Wanda Lynn Baum.

He is survived by his second love, his cat Dusty, many Cousins, and dear Friends.

Memorials may be made to the Lebanon Fire Department or the American Cancer Society.

So sorry to learn of tha passing of a former neighbor. His father and mother would let me come through the back pasture to watch the cows being milked and they attempted to teach me to milk a cow…BUT…I was just too afraid of that cow. Also, I went to school with Wanda and car polled to work in St. Louis for several years…really good folks who are now together again.
