    Dennis Mejia, 78, of Highland, IL, died Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Belleville, IL.

    Dennis was born August 26, 1933, to Benjamin and Gertrude (nee Deck) Mejia, in Franklin, OH.

     He retired after 32 years of service with Business Enterprise Programs for the blind and served on numerous boards and committees.  Most recently, for the last 17 years, he served on the Silver Lake Rest Area Vending Services as a Manager and service provider.  He was an avid Cubs fan.  He was a Ham radio operator since the age of 13.  He loved Big Band music and he hosted 2 radio shows devoted to this music.  The first was at WONC – North Central College, and the second at WGSB – St. Charles/Geneva, IL. 

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Gertrude Mejia; his wife Marie (nee Kellier) Mejia; 1 brother, James Mejia.

     He is survived by 1 son, Paul (Cathy) Mejia, Naperville, IL; 1 granddaughter, Michelle Mejia. 

    There were no services.

     The family requests memorials may be made to American Council for the Blind and Handi Hams – amateur radio operators club.
