    David L. Volz, 61, of Nashville, IL died Saturday, June 2, 2012, at Washington County Hospital, Nashville, IL.

    David was born November 24, 1950 to Alfred and Betty (nee Barnes) Volz, in Highland, IL. On June 15, 1973, he married Debra M. Barr, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, IL.

    David grew up in Alhambra, IL, graduating from Highland High School in 1968. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from SIUE in 1972. He was the editor at Highland News Leader from 1972 to 1980. He was owner/editor of the Amboy News, Amboy, IL from 1980 to 1996, while there he was active in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Chamber of Commerce and Knights of Columbus. He has worked at The Nashville News as editor since 1996.

    He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, Nashville, IL where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was recognized as a Master Editor by the Southern Illinois Editorial Association. He had served on the board of Nashville Public Library, in Nashville, IL.

    He is survived by his wife, Debra Volz, Nashville, IL; his parents, Alfred and Betty Volz, Highland, IL; 2 sons, Todd (Trina) Volz, Maryville, IL, Travis (Shannon) Volz, Nashville, IL; 2 grandsons, Hayden David Volz, William Alan Volz; 1 sister, Nancy Taylor, Highland, IL; 1 nephew, Derrick (Ailee) Taylor, Staunton, IL.

    Memorials may be made to American Heart Association.

    Visitation: Tuesday, June 5, 2012, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, June 6, 2012, from 8:00 to 9:15 a.m. at Meridith Funeral Home, Highland, IL.

    Mass of Christian Burial: Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church, St. Rose, IL.
