  • Full Obituary

Edwin “Ed” Auten Plocher was born in Detroit, Michigan, on September 19, 1925 and passed away Thursday, January 04, 2018. He lived in Highland, Illinois, with Ann Plocher, his wife of 72 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reinhold and Lacey Plocher and sisters, Jane Plocher, Ruth Hug (Jim) and Liz Reinacher (Melvin). Ed attended elementary school at the Kyle School and graduated from Highland High School. He and Ann married January 5, 1946 at Camp Robinson in Little Rock where Ed was a Private First Class in the Army. He was shipped to Virginia where he served until November, 1946. He began work as a dairy farmer in 1947 and did so until 1976. He worked briefly as an electrician and as a truck driver for over 20 years. He retired in 1985 at the age of 60 but continued to help out with his sons’ construction company making deliveries or assisting in any way he could for many years.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pierron, IL and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He and Ann loved to travel around the country on tours and saw Alaska, Hawaii and California among many other states visiting farm progress shows along the way. They ‘wintered’ in Texas for 23 years, driving their RV to Harlingen TX. During that time Ed and Ann loved to dance…ballroom, square dancing, polka, you name it…sometimes three times a day. In addition to dancing Ed loved to read, sing, yodel and he always had a good joke to tell. He is remembered by his entire family very fondly and he will be greatly missed. He was the best example of what a man, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather should be.

He was preceded in death by his son, James E. Plocher (Surviving spouse, Kaye) and is survived by his wife, Anna Wilhelmina (nee Korte) Plocher, Children Patricia Hoffman (John), Gene Plocher (Jane), Charles Plocher (Yevonne), David Plocher (Mary), Marilyn Newman (Tom), Robert Plocher (Mitzi), Mark Plocher (Laurie) and Carol Henschen (Mike).

He is also survived by 27 Grandchildren and their spouses: Jennifer Whitten (Tim), Matt Plocher (Justine), Scott Plocher (Brenda), Christopher Hoffman (Elisabeth), Karen Feldmann (Gary), Cory Plocher (Stacy), Paul Hoffman (Magda), Heather Linenfelser (Kyle), Chad Plocher (Amy), Ed Plocher (Kate), Erik Newman, Kim Lewis (Zach), Maggie Dorgan (Peter), Lisa Scholl (Alex), Amy Garrett (Mike), Joel Newman (Kate), Brent Henschen (Sarah), Rachel Petersen (Adam), Lacey Rosenberg (Bill), Ben Plocher (Eddie), Garrett Plocher (Megan), Jamie Norman (Joe), Emily Izral (Joe), Abbey McGinley (Kevin), Alex Plocher, Megan Nolan (Andy), and Natalie Lewis (Brett)
