Viola E. (nee Peters) Pielemeier, 93, of Highland, IL, died Saturday, December 9, 2017, at San Gabriel Memory Care, Highland, IL.
Viola was born May 31, 1924, to Lawrence and Viola (nee Berry) Peters in Sumner, IL. On December 14, 1965 she married Karl Pielemeier in Los Angeles, CA.
She graduated from Sumner High School in 1942, and went to work in the clerical department at the George Field Airfield in Lawrenceville, IL during WWII. She then went into Nursing and graduated from Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Vincennes, IN in 1951. After graduation, Viola worked as an RN for Dr. Richard Anderson until his death in 1970, and Dr. Murray from 1973-1975. She then went back to school earning an Honorary Associate of Science Degree from Vincennes University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Evansville in Indiana in 1978. Viola continued working as an RN at Willow Manor Nursing Home in Vincennes, until her retirement. In 2011 Vi moved to Highland, IL to be closer to her niece.
Vi loved being an RN and loved the medical field. She was independent, confident, and highly skilled. Although outspoken and unfiltered at times, “Aunt Vi” doted on her nieces and nephews all her life. She will be missed by all as guarded, defiant, difficult at times and funny—a different person to different people.
She is survived by her nephews, Jerry Paddick, Stonefort, IL, and Terry Peters, Bridgeport, IL; nieces, Sandra Paddick Camp, Highland, IL, and Karen Peters Grove, Bridgeport, IL; several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Viola Peters; husband, Karl Pielemeier (died, Dec. 6, 1981); brothers, Gilbert Peters and Delbert Peters; sister; Leatha Von Peters Paddick Boren.
As per her wishes, her cremated ashes will be scattered on the grave sites of her loved ones.
Memorials may be made to Dementia Research or a medical charity.
