Shirley Brown McCoy, 89, of Pocahontas, IL, died Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at her residence with her family at her side.
Shirley was born February 23, 1927 to Valentine and Lena (Nee Gloor) Ziegler, in Millersburg, IL. On August 20, 1946, she married M.G. “Boze” Brown at United Methodist Church, Pocahontas, IL. After 29 years, this marriage was dissolved. On April 18, 1986, she married Melvin McCoy at United Methodist Church, Pocahontas, IL.
She worked as a secretary/office manager for many years for Jon Sugg at his State Farm Insurance Agency.
She was a member of United Methodist Church, Pocahontas, IL. She helped at Pocahontas Food Pantry, Meals on Wheels and loved her Church quilting group. Shirley helped at everything involving the Church. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, and she loved God. Shirley loved to bake; she would send pies to friends when a death occurred in their family; she was known as “Cookie Grandma” by all of her grandchildren.
She is survived by her 3 children, Becky (Don) Hawley, Pocahontas, IL, Bobbie (Dave) Prater, Pocahontas, IL, and Steve (Donna) Brown, Pocahontas, IL; 9 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren; 6 stepchildren; brother, Val Ziegler, Jr., Jackson, TN; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Valentine and Lena Ziegler; 1st husband, M.G. “Boze” Brown (Sep 2014); 2nd husband, Melvin McCoy; sister, Gloria Miles.
Memorials may be made to United Methodist Church, Pocahontas; Pocahontas Food Pantry; Bond County Hospice.
Visitation: Thursday, July 14, 2016, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, at Meridith Funeral Home, Pocahontas and Friday, July, 15, 2016, from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the United Methodist Church.
Funeral: Friday, July 15, 2016, at 11:00 am at United Methodist Church, Pocahontas, IL.
Clergy: Rev. Adam Penn, Pastor and Rev. Dave Trover, Retired Pastor.
Interment: Highland City Cemetery.
