Arnold "AC" Wittmer, 90 of Slummerfield, IL died October 2, 2008 at his residence. He was born February 18, 1918 in St. Clair County, near Summerfield, IL to Louis A. and Barbara (Lauer) Wittmer, both deceased. He married Arvella B. Wanger, April 24, 1954 at St. John UCC, Summerfield, IL, and she preceded him in death November 14, 1995.
He is survived by one daughter - Barbara (Roger) Baer, Summerfield, IL; one grandson, Jacob "Jake" (Fiancee Kelsey Wehrle) Baer - Summerfield, IL; one great grandson, Noah Baer, Summerfield, IL; 3 sisters, Eleanora (Sylvester) Korte, Lebanon, IL; Irma Saenger, Florida, Grace (Fred) Cherry, Independence, MO; one brother, Irvin Wittmer, O'Fallon, IL; several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by: one grandson, Aaron Baer, 1/4/2007; one son Terry Wittmer, 1965; one brother - Robert Wittmer; one brother-in-law, Fred Saenger; one sister-in-law, Lorraine Wittmer.
He was a veteran of US Army WWII serving in South Pacific. Lifelong farmer and had worked at the Summerfield School as a Custodian for many years. He was a member of St. John UCC, Summerfield, IL, Summerfield Lions Club Charter Member; Trenton VFW; St. Clair Co. Farm Bureau.
Visitation: Sunday, 10/5/08 at Meyer Funeral Home from 4:00 - 7:00 pm and on Monday at the Church from 9:00 - 10:00 A.M.
Funeral: Monday, 10/6/08 @ 10:00 A.M. @ St. John UCC, Summerfield, IL with Rev. Gary Kniepkamp, Pastor officiating.
Burial: Summerfield Cemetery, Summerfield, IL
