Doris L. Schmitt, 87, of O’Fallon, IL, formerly of Lebanon, IL, died Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at her residence.
She was born January 11, 1924 to Edgar and Marietta (nee Harms) Schaefer in Lebanon, IL. She married Charles Herman Schmitt in E. St. Louis, IL.
Doris was an R. N. working most of her career at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Lebanon, IL and Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. She married her one true love, Charlie.
She is survived by 1 son, Robert Schmitt, Shiloh, IL; 1 granddaughter, Lisa (Mike) Milleson, O’Fallon, IL; 1 brother, Robert “Rock” (Shirley) Schaefer, Lebanon, IL; 3 nieces, Shelly, Sherry, Susan; Many great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Marietta Schaefer; her husband, Charles Herman Schaefer; daughter-in-law, Mary Schmitt; 1 sister, Ruth Schaefer; 1 brother, Edgar “Slick” Schaefer.
The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice for all of their help and compassion.
