James Frederick Meyer, 74, of Lebanon, IL born October 9, 1935 in Litchfield, IL died Monday, January 4, 2010 in Knoxville. Tennessee. Mr. Meyer was the first born son of Lucille K. (nee Gusewell) and Edwin J. Meyer of Prairietown, IL. After graduating from Staunton H.S., Jim received his degree in Vocational Agriculture from the Univ. of Illinois and taught one year at Taylorville H.S. before entering the Air Force.
Jim and his family traveled extensively around the world following his military career. He was a transportation officer in the Air Force for 28 years. Following his military career, Jim taught high school chemistry and physics at Valmeyer H.S. and Highland H.S. Jim was also the high school soccer coach at Highland H.S.
Jim was a member of Zion Lutheran church in Mascoutah, IL. He was also a part of the National Defense Transportation Assn. Jim was part of the Beta Sigma Psi Fraternity.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, OrraLee, nee Woneldorff, Meyer whom he married on August 18, 1957; four children, David (Valerie) Meyer, Dianne (Jim) Castle, Suzanne (Sebastien Dubreil) Meyer and Sally (Jeff) Taylor; seven grandchildren, Chris Castle, Katie Meyer, Hannah Meyer, Beth Castle, Alex Taylor, Max Taylor and Eva Dubreil; and brothers, Charles, John, and Ralph, and their families.
The Family has requested memorials be made to the American Heart Assn. or a charity of choice.
VISITATION: 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, 2010 at Meyer Funeral Home, Lebanon, IL.
FUNERAL: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Mascoutah, IL, Interment will be Monday, January 11, 2010 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
