Gertrude A. McMurtrey, 99, of Pocahontas, IL, died Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at St. Joseph Hospital, Highland, IL.
Gertrude was born November 4, 1911, in Dixon, MO, to John and Maude (nee Bumpess) Viessman. She married John McMurtrey in St. Louis, MO.
She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Pocahontas, IL. She was Past President of Ladies Sodality. She raised livestock and pet animals operating a kennel for many years.
She is survived by, 1 daughter, Joyce (Lowell) Miller, Granite City, IL, 2 sons, Charles (Carol) Kibbons, Arnold, MO, William McMurtrey, Madison, IL; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Viola Copeland, Glen Carbon, IL; dear friend, Charles Moody.
She was preceded in death by, her parents, John and Maude Viessman; her husband, John McMurtrey; 1 Son, John Kibbons; 3 brothers, Tom, Emmett, and Bud; 3 sisters, Catherine, Blanche, Ellen.
Visitation: Saturday, February 19, 2011, 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Meridith Funeral Home, Pocahontas, IL.
Service: Saturday, February 19, 2011, at 4:00 p.m. at Meridith Funeral Home.
Clergy: Rev. Carlos Bohorquez, Pastor, St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Pocahontas, IL.
Interment: At a later date.
