Robert L. Dietz, 80, Lebanon, IL, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2016.
Bob was a hard working man who would help whenever needed. He worked for Crook Development building beautiful houses in the Oak Hill Subdivision for many years. He never wanted to retire so he went to work at St. Henry’s Church and Creative Learning Center in Belleville, Illinois. He was well-known for his blueberry, apple, and rhubarb pies for fish fries at St. Henry’s. The children of St. Henry’s Preschool would come up and say “Hi, Mr. Bob”.
Bob was a life-long member of St. Paul Church in Lebanon, Illinois, and helped build the hall at St. Paul.
He is survived by a daughter, Ann (David) Figura of Imperial, MO; son, James (Dr. Elizabeth Demos) Dietz of LaGrange, IL; grandchildren, Sara Figura and Robert “Bobby” John Dietz; brothers, Charles (Jeanette) Dietz, Fairview Heights, IL, John (Mary Jane) Dietz, Lebanon, IL, Paul (Jean) Dietz, Lebanon, IL; nine brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth (Eileen) Bassler, Bonnie (John) Kistner, David (Janice) Bassler, Michael (Marianne) Bassler, Greg Bassler, Pat (Don) Miller, Jim Bassler, John (Terri) Bassler, Pam (Steve) Erwin; multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Sharon Dietz (nee Bassler); father and mother, Ferdinand and Anna Dietz (nee Schmidt); sister-in-law, Rosemary Ivey.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Henry’s Creative Learning Center, 5303 W. Main Street, Belleville, IL 62226.
Visitation: Friday, January 8, 2016, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, and Saturday, January 9, 2016, from 9:00 to 10:00 am, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Lebanon, IL.
Funeral Service: Saturday, January 9, 2016, at 10:00 am, at St. Paul UCC, Lebanon, IL.
