    Virginia W. Dapkus, 92, of Highland, IL, died Saturday, June 8, 2013, at her residence.

    Virginia was born August 5, 1920, to Henry and Cora (Nee Perkins) Nicolaides, in Piggott, Arkansas.   On February 23, 1943, she married Pete J. Dapkus in Cape Giraudeau, MO.

    She was a lifelong member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, IL

    She belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star in Pocahontas, IL.  She was a former member of Home Extension in the Bond County Farm Bureau.  In her early years, she was a beauty operator and worked as a seamstress at the Marine Garment Factory in Highland, IL, and also worked the Small Arms Factory in St. Louis, MO, during WW II.

    She is survived by her 4 children, Vicki Clayton, Highland, IL, David (Linda) Dapkus, Huntsville, AL, Joel (Jane) Dapkus, Cynthia (Terry) Zweig, Cape Coral, FL; 12 grandchildren, Stephen (Denise) Clayton, Kristine (Brian) Klenke, Donald (Special Friend Susie Renschen) Dapkus, Michael (Michelle) Dapkus, Kathryn (Mike) Eller, David “DJ” Dapkus, Jennifer (Chad) McElhiney, Josie Beard, Danny Haberer, Natalee Schwalb, Terry Zweig, Jr., James Zweig; 21 great grandchildren, Jacob Clayton, Chelsey Klenke, Benjamin Clayton, Emerson Dapkus, Jaxon Dapkus, Rylan Dapkus, Shalaya McElhiney, Tyler McElhiney, Christian McElhiney, Evan Dapkus, Carter Dapkus, Caden Dapkus, Tessa Beard, James Beard, Alayna Beard, Blaine Haberer, Jerron Haberer, Grant Connoyer, Trenton Connoyer, Jimmy Zweig, Zaria Zweig; and     1 sister Joyce (Joe) Wallace, Sarasota, FL.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Cora Nicolaides; her husband, Pete J. Dapkus; 2 grandchildren, Kraig Klenke, Jessica Clayton; 5 brothers, Homer, Melvin, Elvin, Paul, Myrell Nicolaides; 3 sisters, Dorothy Nilsen, Pauline Gill, Helen Roberts.

    Memorials may be made to National Muco-Polysacchaidosis Society or Micro-Cephaly for Visually Impaired People.
