Shirley J. Hulvey, 78, of Highland, IL, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at her home, in Highland, IL.

She was born on July 12, 1946, in Newkirk, OK, to Lowell and Lela (nee King) Foreman.  She graduated in 1964 from Wichita West High School in Wichita, KS. On June 17, 1966, she married Michael K. Hulvey at the McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, KS.

Throughout her adult life, Shirley worked as a secretary for various telecommunications companies and medical offices between staying at home to raise her children. Shirley had been living in Highland since 2021, having moved from Maryville, IL, with her late husband, Michael. She was a devoted member of Highland Hope United Methodist Church, and through them, a member of OWLS. Everyone she met through her church became like a second family to her over the years.

Shirley enjoyed gardening, sewing, and dabbling in playing bluegrass music. Before her husband passed in 2023, Shirley and Michael enjoyed traveling, and became snowbirds the last several winters, spending the cold months between Texas and Florida.

Shirley was energetic and fun loving. She loved to laugh and had a good sense of humor. Spending time with her family was one of her greatest joys. She was selfless, always helping anyone who needed it and always more concerned for others before herself.  A kind, caring, and compassionate woman, Shirley will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Michael Kent Hulvey, and her parents, Lowell and Lela Foreman.

Shirley is survived by her children, Bethany (Brice) LeBlanc, Amy (Steve) Eversman, and Matthew (Heather) Hulvey; grandchildren, Aidan (Allison) LeBlanc, Michael (fiancé, Corey Salinetro) LeBlanc, Celestine Atwood, Nathan Hulvey, and Collin Hulvey; sisters, Katheryn “Kay” Tate, Cheryl “Sherrie” Schulte, and Diane Jeffress; numerous nieces, nephews, and loving friends.

Memorial donations may be made to Highland Hope United Methodist Church.
