Robert “Bob” S. Hubbs, 92, of Alhambra, IL, passed away Sunday, October 20, 2024, at Hitz Memorial Home, in Alhambra, IL, surrounded by his family.

He was born on February 27, 1932, in Beloit, KS, to John and Nellie (nee Hall) Hubbs. On November 9, 1952, he married the love of his life, Joan Charpentier, in New Harmony, IN.

Bob answered the call of duty early in life, serving his country as a Sergeant during the Korean War. A member of the esteemed 3rd Infantry Division, he played a critical role in defending South Korea, standing tall alongside his comrades in the face of adversity. As a paratrooper in the renowned 101st Airborne Division, Bob specialized in air assault operations, displaying the bravery and discipline that would define both his military service and the rest of his life. Due to his unwavering courage and knowledge, he received the Bronze Star Medal for his service in the Army.

Following his honorable service, Bob transitioned into civilian life with the same commitment and work ethic that marked his military career. He found his calling as a mechanic for General Motors, where he worked tirelessly until his well-earned retirement. Even after retiring, Bob’s love for cars never waned, and he could often be found in his garage, tinkering with engines and sharing his expertise with family and friends.

Above all, Bob was a man who deeply cherished his family. His wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the center of his world, and everything he did was for them. Whether offering a helping hand, sharing his wisdom, or simply spending time together, Bob's family knew they could always count on him. His grandchildren especially held a special place in his heart, and his legacy will live on through the countless lessons and memories he created with them.

Bob will be remembered not only for his service to his country but also for his unwavering dedication to those he loved. His strong work ethic, quiet strength, and love for his family will continue to inspire those who were lucky enough to know him.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Joan P. F. Hubbs; parents, John and Nellie Hubbs; siblings, John C. Hubbs, Herbert C. Hubbs, Harold L. A. Hubbs, Freda D. Griffin, Earl W. Hubbs, Keith R. Hubbs; grandchildren, Matthew Gum, Michael Hubbs.

I am very saddened to see this. I wish I could have been at the service today. I remember Uncle Bob visiting in our younger days. I have not seen him since my Dad’s funeral. My thoughts and prayers go out to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. I will visit Jefferson Barracks and pay respects this weekend. God be with you all.
