Marjory Ann Brown-Britt, 99, of Pocahontas, IL passed away peacefully on October 3, 2024, at Greenville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, with her loving family by her side.

Marjory was born on March 26, 1925, to John M. and Ida Mae (nee Beatty) Brown in Terre Haute, IN.  She was raised in Jessup, IN, Hagerstown, IL, Kenney, IL, and finally, Pocahontas, IL.  Marjory had one brother, Johnny, who was 10 years older.

Marjory married Stanford “Duck” S Brown on October 2, 1943.  They were married nearly 55 years and had 8 children, 18 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She also had many beloved nieces and nephews.  Marjory’s life revolved around family, which she had in abundance.

She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Pocahontas.  She was a faithful volunteer and a role model to many. Marjory always enjoyed playing games and cards with her family and also gardening. She and Duck provided delicious food to their family from their three gardens, which Marjory canned and froze in large amounts. Marjory and Duck raised their family in Flat Rock, MI, and then moved back to Pocahontas, IL, in 1959. Following Duck’s passing in 1998, Marjory married Oscar Britt in 2003. They had 20 years together, prior to Oscar’s passing in 2023.

Marjory was a member of the Bond County Homemakers Extension and was a friend to many.  She always had a smile, positive outlook and a quick wit.  She was generous with her time, talents, and faithful in giving to others.  Marjory was patient, loving, and selfless, always thinking of others first. She was a strong woman of God and a lifelong example to all that were blessed to know her.

Marjory is survived by her children, Kathy (John) Doll, Judy Daniel, Richard (Lora) Brown, Barbara (Roger) Wrisberg, Marilyn (Eldon) Turley, Marcia (JR) Potthast, Janet Nottrott, and Donna (Mike) Frecker; and 41 grandchildren in total.

Marjory was proceeded in death by her parents, John M. and Ida Mae Brown; brother, John H. Brown; husband, Stanford S Brown, son-in-law, David Daniel and husband, Oscar Britt.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pocahontas United Methodist Church or to a charity of your choice.
