    Dolores Longbons Roosevelt was born in rural Albion, Illinois on December 14, 1924. She died on January 26, 2024. She was 99 years of age.

    When Dolores was eleven years old, her Great Uncle, Ed Longbons said to her “You have to get an education. They can’t tax it, and no one can take it away from you.” Dolores taught school for 32 years. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Southern Illinois University in 1965 and a Master’s Degree from the University of Illinois in 1972. All of her children and grandchildren are college educated.

    In 1966, she was President of the Edwards County Teacher’s Association, and she was a 40+ year member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a lifelong member of First Christian Church of Albion. For many years she was the President of the Christian Women’s Fellowship. For ten years, she was a member of the Regional Women’s Cabinet.

    Dolores enjoyed traveling and besides many areas within North America, she also visited Asia, Europe and the Caribbean. At the age of 96, she saw the Grand Canyon for the first time in her life.

    She is survived by her sisters, Ruth Longbons Orr and Edythe Strater; her son John (Add) Roosevelt and two daughters, Deidre (Richard Holder) Roosevelt, and Bonnie Tickner. Four grandchildren, Nikolas (Katie) Roosevelt, John Frederick (Annick) Roosevelt, Tracy (Aaron) Monts, and Holly (Mike) Piontek. Three great grandchildren, Elliot Grace Monts, and Orion and Nadia Roosevelt.

    She was preceded in death by her parents and her son in law, Scott Tickner.

    Memorials may be made in memory of Dolores Roosevelt to the First Christian Church of Albion, Illinois.

    Interment: Graceland Cemetery, Albion IL

    She was my 5th grade teacher for the 1966-67 school year, What a wonderful woman. Over the years, we would have sporadic random contact when she was a greeter at Wal-Mart, or other public places. She was always sweet and encouraging. I extend my sympathy to the family. She was loved by many.

    Bonnie and family, so sorry to hear of your Mothers passing. Mrs. Roosevelt was a kind lady, and always enjoyed talking with her through the years. Condolences to all of the family.
