      Marvin “Bud” L. Gilliland, 90, of Caseyville, IL, passed away on Tuesday, October, 10, 2023, at Anderson Hospital, in Maryville, IL.

      He was born on January 5, 1933, in Rural Ralls County, outside of Frankford, MO, to Omar and Ethel (nee Turnbough) Gilliland. On October 4, 1958, he married the love of his life, Esther Lena Boulicault in St. Louis, MO.

      Marvin was a United States Navy Veteran who served during the Korean War. During his time in the Navy he was part of the Navy Construction Battalion, better known as the “Seabees”, which are responsible for building much of the temporary and permanent infrastructure at U.S. military locations around the world. After he served his country, Marvin worked for Bituminous Fuel & Oil for many years and was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 520 and Local 513. Marvin was a devoted family-man who loved to spend time with his wife and children, especially his grand children and great-grandchildren. He was a treasured husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, Omar and Ethel Gilliland; sisters, Lucille Epperson, of Center, MO, Wilma Fugat, of Hannibal, MO; brother, Edward Gilliland, of Litchfield, IL.

      Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Esther Lena Gilliland; children, Doug (Latisha) Gilliland, of St. Louis, MO, Jeffrey (Patsy) Gilliland, of Dallas, TX, Thomas Gilliland, of Columbia, IL; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and many loving friends.

      He will be laid to rest at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

      A celebration of life will be held privately by the family.
