James E. “Jim” Stack Sr., 89, of Highland, IL, died Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital, Highland, IL.
Jim was born August 3, 1923, to William and Isabell (Nee Kobel) Stack, in Granite City, IL. On October 20, 1945 he married Wilma Rose Grob, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Granite City, IL.
Jim was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, IL. He was deeply religious with strong beliefs in his Catholic Faith and was an ardent member and supporter of all Pro-Life and Right to Life organizations. He was proud of his large family and always passed-out cigars at the birth of each child. He was witty, even funny and loved telling jokes, anecdotes and stories laced with many funny little sayings. He loved to sing and had songs for every occasion, many of which were as funny as his stories. He loved watching and hearing his children and grandchildren standing around the piano singing as much as he enjoyed joining in and singing along. He was charitable and smiling and brought laughter and smiles from all that he encountered including all of the wonderful Doctors, Nurses and Staff at St. Joseph's Hospital in Highland, Hitz Home in Alhambra and his doctors' offices at Barnes. And that lasted to the last breath that he drew, never having complained about a thing. He was loved and will be missed by so many.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma Rose Stack; 9 children, Kathleen A. (David) Cerny, James E. (Karen) Stack, Jr., Daniel J. (Dil) Stack, Raymond Louis Stack, Michael J. (Jo Ann) Stack, Bradley G. (Patti) Stack, Anthony (fiance’ Robyn) Stack, Stephen P. Stack, Anna Marie “Amy” Stack; 16 grandchildren, Kara and Jimmy Welch, Paul and Laura De Luca, Danny O., Naureen S. and Ryan Stack, Sam Stack, Rebecca, Adam, Alex and Ethan Stack, Kimberly and Anthony Stack, Mia and Emily; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, June Riggins, Patricia Green; 1 brother, Paul Stack; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Isabell Stack; 3 brothers, William Greg Stack, Don Stack, Robert Stack; 1 sister, Rosemary Perkins.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus or National Right to Life.
