John Frank Mauretto, 72, of Dardenne Prairie, MO, formerly of Glen Carbon, IL, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 16, 2023, near Flippin, AR.
He was born February 19, 1951, to Frank and Frieda (nee Feig) Mauretto, in East St. Louis, IL. On July 1, 1972, he married Gail Duckworth, at St. Clare Catholic Church in O’Fallon, IL.
As an electrician, John spent 17 years at River King Mine in Freeburg, IL, and the following 26 years at Granite City Steel.
John was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. One of the proudest moments in his life was becoming a grandfather. Some simple joys of John’s life were bagna cauda, wine, and strong coffee with his family.
John was a conservationist. Every year he would take his family on vacation to the trails and streams of the Smoky Mountains. He was an avid fly-fisherman. His specialty was fly fishing with his own hand-tied flies.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Frieda Mauretto.
John is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gail Mauretto; children, Jennifer (Jason) Thorpe, Jeremy (Belle) Mauretto; cherished grandchildren, Abigail Thorpe, Lucas Thorpe, Olivia Thorpe, Nicholas Thorpe, Levi Thorpe, Kolbe Thorpe, Nolan Thorpe, Joel Thorpe, Kalvin Thorpe, Laura Mauretto, Lucas Mauretto; sisters, Patricia (Gerald) Fischer, Donna (Dan) DeYoung; nieces, nephews, and many loving friends.
Memorials may be made to the Missouri Department of Conservation.
Visitation: Wednesday, March 22, 2023, from 9:00 to 11:00 am, at Ss Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Collinsville, IL.
