    William L. “Bill” Tarpley of West Salem, IL passed away peacefully in his sleep February 11th, 2023.  He was born June 16th, 1943, to Clarence and Mary Emma (Hinderliter) Tarpley in Lodi, Wisconsin, and they both preceded him in passing.  His mother passed while he was still young and Clarence remarried to Fern Patterson & brought with her a new sister for the kids, Sharon.

    Bill was a retired farmer and in later years did custom baling for many area farmers.  He worked in the tool and die department at Champion Laboratories for many years and retired from there in 2006.  In 2018 Bill had the privilege and great honor of being on an Honor Flight.  He served a tour in Vietnam where he was a stevedore and a tunnel rat.

    Bill is survived by his wife of nearly 52 years, Karen.  His daughter Deneise & her husband Brent Kramer, daughter Stephanie & her husband Kirby Shanks, daughter Holly & her husband Dewayne Blake; and Sister, Sharon Hogg.  He is also survived by his grandchildren Whitney, Chanel, Dylon, Jacob, Cade, Olivia and Nicole and 6 great grandchildren, brother-in-law Mike Clodfelter, Nephew Billy Tarpley, niece Misty O’Connor, nephew Frank Postin, and nephew Shawn Clodfelter and his fur baby Lucy.

    Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Sr. & Mary Emma Tarpley, stepmom Fern, his son Harley Tarpley, brother Clarence Tarpley Jr., and Sister Betty Lester and nephew Tony Tarpley.

    Visitation:  Wednesday, February 15, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Moravian Church, West Salem, IL.

    Funeral Service:  Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. Moravian Church, West Salem, IL.

    Bill would want those attending to dress casual.

    Interment: Moravian Cemetery, West Salem, IL.  Military rites at the graveside by the Edwards County Veterans.

    Always enjoyed the Moravian Sunday school class when Bill was there.He had a strong interest in learning about the lessons and bible.
