    William J. “Bill” Black, 65, of Highland, IL, died Friday, December 18, 2015, at St. Joseph Hospital, Highland, IL.

    Bill was born November 24, 1950, to William and Laura (Nee Kassing) Black, in E. St. Louis, IL.  On June 14, 1969, he married Peggy Peck in E. St. Louis, IL.

    Bill retired from Southwestern Illinois Metropolitan and Regional Planning Commission, where he was a Graphic Artist for 45 years.  He served as Caseyville Village Trustee and Precinct Committeeman in O’Fallon, IL.  Bill also served on the O’Fallon Park Board and Homecoming Committees.

    A member of Ducks Unlimited, Bill loved his lake, nature and wildlife, going fishing and hunting and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.  He enjoyed many good times with his brothers-in-law at “the clubhouse”.  Bill shared his love of his backyard birds and trees with his wife of 46 years, Peggy.  He will be sadly missed by his dog, Lily, with whom he watched numerous westerns.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Laura Black.

    He is survived by his wife, Peggy Black, Highland, IL; children, Dawn (William) Poe, Highland, IL, Robin (Randy) Nelson, Highland, IL, William R. (Stacie) Black, Highland, IL; grandchildren, Gabriella Nelson, Chase Poe, Hunter Nelson, Mia Poe, Haley Black; brothers, Kenneth (Teresa) Black, Prospect Heights, IL, Donald (Doris) Black, Bloomington, IL, Leonard (Doris) Black, Caseyville, IL; brothers-in-law, Billy (Cindy) Peck, Jeff (Patty) Peck; numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends.

    Memorials may be made to Ducks Unlimited or John Wayne Cancer Institute.

    Visitation: Monday, December 21, 2015, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm and Tuesday, December 22, 2015, from 8:00 to 10:00 am, at Meridith Funeral Home, Highland, IL.

    Funeral: Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 10:00 am at Meridith Funeral Home.

    Clergy: Rev. Dr. Beverly Wilkes-Null, Pastor, Highland Hope United Methodist Church.

    Interment: At a later date.
