  • Full Obituary

Wallace L. “Wally” Nunn, 85, of Lebanon, IL, died Saturday, October 3, 2015, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Belleville, IL.

Wally was born September 16, 1930, to Earle and Catherine (nee Fourloins) Nunn, in York, PA.  On September 21, 1951, he married Dorothy Starner in Towson, MD.

Wally grew up as a country boy in Pennsylvania always working.  He would float between farmers always in great demand helping as a hired hand.  Every farmer wanted Wally to work for him.  Wally joined the U.S. Navy at age 17 serving 9 years.  He served as an airplane mechanic petty officer 1st class on the USS Coral Sea and USS Roosevelt Carriers.  Without missing a day of service, he transferred to the U.S. Air Force where he was the crew chief on C-131 aircraft.  His final duty station was Andrews Air Force Base, where he was the crew chief for the presidential wing, having the privilege of maintaining the Vice President’s plane.  Wally continued working in Civil Service as a procurement officer for the U.S. Army, overseeing contracts on the Cobra Helicopter and spent nearly 2 years in Iran until the overthrow of the government forced his early return.  He retired again in 1983.  Wally spent endless hours volunteering whenever there was a job to be done.  Horner Park trustees honored him with a sidewalk “Wally’s Walk” and bench dedicated to his 50+ years of helping when and wherever needed.

Wally was also a member of the Lebanon Sportsman Club and Lebanon Singing Society.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with family and friends, and was an avid fan of all his grandchildren’s sporting and school events.  He will be greatly missed by so many.

He is survived by his Son, John (Rhonda) Nunn; Grandchildren, Rob (Amy) Nunn, and Jamie (Duran) Geragosian; Great-grandchildren, Landon, Drake, and Brynli Geragosian and Savannah Nunn; Son, Ronald (Lea Ann) Nunn, Grandsons, Eric Nunn and Brian (Christi) Nunn; Great-Grandson, Gage Nunn; Son, Jeffrey (Connie) Nunn; Granddaughters, Melissa, Lauren, and Paige Nunn; Brothers, Kenneth Nunn, York, PA, and Raymond “Red” Nunn, Conestogo, PA; Sister, Ruth Ruppert, York, PA.

He was preceded in death by his Wife, Dorothy (nee Starner) Nunn; Son, Robert Nunn; Parents, Earle and Catherine Nunn; Brother, William Nunn.

Memorials may be made to Horner Park Trustees.
