    Thelma Ellen Walker, nee Ashlock, 97, of Lebanon, IL born May 31, 1909 in Carter County, MO., died Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at her residence.

    Harry and Thelma had shared more than 65 years of marriage at the time of Harry's death in August, 2006.  A faithful member of the United Methodist Church of Lebanon Mrs. Walker worked with small children at Sunday school for many years.  She volunteered at the Lebanon public schools where she served as room mother, chaperone and fundraiser.  Thelma was active in local cancer society activities, other various charities and a member of the history club.  She was especially attentive to older folks who needed a helping hand, and was devoted to animals and cared for two strays and all four legged creatures in need.  Thelma was well known throughout the community for her baking skills, especially her pies.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, harry L. Walker whom she married Oct. 5, 1940 in St. Louis, MO; her parents, brady Norman and Mary Ann, nee Foster, Ashlock; and three siblings, Myrtle, Olin and Audrey.

    Surviving are her son, Gerald Gordon (Nettie) Ashlock of Springfield, IL; two daughters, Ann Walker Unal and husband Gurkan Unal, Ph.D of Fairfax, VA, and Joan Walker Hannah and husband Richard J. Hannah, M.D. of salem, Mass; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

    In lieu of flowers, the Walker family requests donations be made to First United Methodist Church, Lebanon, IL>

    Visitation:  Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2007 at Meyer Funeral Home, Lebanon, IL and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2007, at First United Methodist Church, Lebanon, IL.

    Funeral:  Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2007, at First United Methodist Church, Lebanon, IL, with the Rev. Kathy King-Nobles officiating.  Interment will be in College Hill Cemetery, Lebanon, IL
