    Rev. Don H. Grimes, of Albion, IL, journeyed home to be with our Lord on May 6, 2019, from Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mt. Carmel, IL.

    Rev. Grimes was born in Sanora, OH August 21, 1924, the son of Homer and Lucy Amelia (West) Grimes. He married Ruth Ellen (Glick) Grimes on June 10, 1948 in Berea, KY. Rev. Grimes served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy.

    Rev. Grimes was a pastor in the Free Methodist Church for 55 years, pastoring in Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. In 1984, Rev. Grimes became interested in the needs of the people in Haiti, and for 17 years he traveled to Haiti with a group on mission trips. They built churches and schools with kitchens to feed the children. In 1986, he raised money to buy a large truck to haul materials to their job sites. He was interested in the children of Haiti and began raising money to feed the children which he called “Feed His Lambs.” Rev. Grimes also traveled to Paraguay with a mission group to build a church. He had the honor of traveling with a group of pastors to Taiwan and China. Rev. Grimes was a principal at Keensburg, IL and Martinsville, IL and taught school at Albion. Rev. Grimes was a master storyteller, gardener, and friend to anyone he met.

    He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ruth; six children: David Paul (Jean) Grimes of Conway, SC; Don Carl (Becky) Grimes of Albion; Linda Suzanne (Joe) Collins of Albion; Kathie Louise Ewing of Lewisville, TX; Denise Ruth (Harold) Taylor of Magnolia, TX; and Angela Faith Grimes of Lawrenceville, IL; grandchildren: Jacquie Grimes of Conway, SC; Jenny McGillivary, Bryan (Missy) Grimes, and Andy (Tanya) Grimes all of Albion; Mandie (Jacob) Weber and Cris (Greg) Edwards of Olney, IL; Erin (Bobby) Lester of Frisco, TX; Dr. Lora Spiller of San Antonio, TX; Kate Spiller of Albion; Arias Alex of Lawrenceville; Nick Carie of Mt. Carmel; SPC Riley (Devin) Raber of Ft. Lewis-McChord, WA; and 25 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Daniel Grimes and sister Winifred (Doug) Jones of Newark, OH; and sisters-in-law: Virginia Harding of Zanesville, OH; and Betty Grimes of Shepherdstown, WV.

    Those who preceded him in death were his parents; his grandson, David Allen Grimes; brothers: Jay Myron and Joe Loren; and sisters: Thelma, Doris, Shirley, and Marjorie.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to FOHO Missions, a charity that was close to Rev. Grimes’s heart.

    Visitation will be held Thursday, May 9, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ingram-Meridith Funeral Home in Albion. The funeral service will be held Friday, May 10, 2019 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow at Graceland Cemetery.

    I always loved it when he would come into the pharmacy whistling a tune…..was always in a super-happy mood! Heaven has gained another angel.
