    Myrtle C. Griggs, 98, of Lebanon, Ill., born Feb. 12, 1918, in Lebanon Township, died Thursday, May 12, 2016, at Aviston Countryside Manor in Aviston, Ill.

    Myrtle grew up in Lebanon and on a farm north of Lebanon. She attended elementary school at the Emerald Mound School northeast of Lebanon, and she graduated from Lebanon High School, Class of 1935. Myrtle lived most of her life in Lebanon, although she had resided at Trenton Village in Trenton, Ill., for several of her last years.

    She enjoyed bowling, swimming, reading, traveling, playing pinochle and bingo, and she was an active member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Lebanon for many years. She made many friends in her numerous activities and enjoyed lifelong friendships and fellowship in her church congregation. She volunteered many years with American Red Cross blood drives, and she had been a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

    Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, George B. Griggs; son, Stanley R. Griggs; daughters-in-law, Geraldine E. Griggs and Anne T. Griggs; grandson, Kristian E. Griggs; parents, Earl and Ellen Monken; sister, Velma Bunge; brothers-in-law, Robert "Bud" Bunge, Charles Kimble and nephew, Robert "Bobby" Bunge.

    Surviving are her sons, Bradley (Vera) Griggs and Thomas Griggs; sister, Nita Norsigian; grandchildren, Jennifer (Barry) Jackson, Jackie (Fred) Griggs, Jeff Griggs, Jill Griggs and Kim Griggs; and six great-grandchildren and five nieces and nephews.

    Memorials can be made to the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Lebanon and Hospice of Southern Illinois.

    Visitation is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Lebanon.

    Funeral service at 11 a.m. at the church.

    Clergy: Rev. Dr. Don Wagner.

    Interment: College Hill Cemetery.
