  • Full Obituary

Martha Gail Henderson (nee Garrett), 62, of Highland, IL, died Monday, November 9, 2015, at St. Louis University Hospital, St. Louis, MO.  She had been hospitalized and treated since September 27th.

Martha was born at Firmin Desloge Hospital (now St. Louis University Hospital) in St. Louis, MO, on January 6, 1953.  She grew up and graduated high school in Cahokia, IL.  She met her husband, William (Bill) Henderson in St. Louis County in the summer of 1982, and they married on May 21, 1983, in Cahokia, IL.  They both had previous spouses and finally learned what a great marriage was like.

Martha loved life and people and it never took her long to make enduring friendships.  To her, the invention of Facebook was a blessing, as she was able to eliminate the miles and keep up with old friends and, to her most importantly, her large family which had spread out across the country.  All it took was a trip to the other room and the computer to watch nieces and nephews (including great and great-great) grow up and to stay in touch with her old friends.  So many said they made it a point to see her daily postings as it made their day.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Gladys (nee Kenuam) Garrett; her sister, Doris Smith.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Henderson, Highland, IL; her sisters, Shirley (Herman) Gansert, Belleville, IL, Glenda Powell, Schofield, WI, Terry Heitman, Okawville, IL, Tonia (Earnest) Smith, Litchfield, IL, and Beckie Scurlock, Litchfield, IL; her brothers, Fred Garrett, Belleville, IL, and Danny Garrett, Hillsboro, IL; many nieces and nephews; and fur babies, Cinnamon, Cookie, Teddy.

Memorials may be made to American Heart Association.
