    John C. Godwin, 95, of Lebanon, IL, died Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.

    John was born May 3, 1919, to Rev. Thomas George and Lucille (Nee Hendrix) Godwin, in Coal City, IL.  On September 29, 1944 he married Beatrice “Bea” Attey, in Belleville, IL.

    He was a member of 1st United Methodist Church, Lebanon, IL, where he taught adult Sunday School and was on the board of Trustee’s, and was instrumental in several Church repair projects.  He was a member of Lebanon Masonic Lodge and Scottish Right in Belleville, IL.  He taught at West Virginia Wesleyan College, then during the Korean Conflict, he went back to Scott Air Force Base.  Then he taught at McKendree College, where he was director of Night School and Associate Professor, for several years then at the Air Force Film Library in St. Louis, MO, then was Base Education Officer at Scott Air Force Base for several years.

    He is survived by 2 children, Mark (Nedre) Godwin, Lebanon, IL, Margaret Bergmark, Lebanon, IL; 2 grandchildren, Benjamin (Nina) Bergmark, Ft. Lewis, WA, Andrew Bergmark, Lebanon, IL;  several nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Thomas George and Lucille Godwin; his wife, Beatrice Godwin; 1 sister, Martha Roberts.

    Vistitation: Thursday, September 4, 2014, from 2:00 to 6:00 pm at 1st United Methodist Church, Lebanon, IL.

    Funeral: Thursday, September 4, 2014, at 7:00 pm at the Church.

    Interment: Friday, September 5, 2014, at 2:00 pm at College Hill Cemetery, Lebanon, IL
