    Jack and Shirley (nee Schutzenhofer) Cygan, both 85, of Highland, IL, died Sunday, November 29, 2015, in each other’s arms, at their residence.

    Jack was born April 14, 1930, to John and Mary (nee Grawol) Cygan in E. St. Louis, IL.  On November 17, 1951, he married Shirley Schutzenhofer in E. St. Louis, IL.

    Shirley was born May 29, 1930, to Luke and Rose (nee Putz) Schutzenhofer in E. St. Louis, IL.  On November 17, 1951, she married John “Jack” Cygan in E. St. Louis, IL.

    He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree Assembly; Polish American War Veterans, Caseyville, IL; Police Board Commissioner, Highland, for 30 years; Catholic Youth Minister at St. Martins, E. St. Louis, IL, 1960-1972 and at St. Paul Church, Highland, IL, from 1976-2011; Eucharistic Minister, and Lector.

    She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, the Polish American Ladies’ Society (PALS), and pinochle card club.  She was involved with her husband in the Catholic Youth Ministry at St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, IL.

    They were season ticket holders of the St. Louis Cardinals football, then avid St. Louis Rams and St. Louis Cardinals baseball fans.  They both coached youth softball, baseball and basketball; he coached girls soccer, women’s softball and boys football in Highland, and all the youth teams and was the athletic director at St. Martins.  In 1963, he and Shirley started Cygan Catering Service, now Cygan Delaney Catering Service.  They were involved in all their grandchildren’s activities and loved family time.  They traveled the world with family as much as possible.

    They are survived by children, Valerie (Danny) Delaney, Highland, IL, Denise (Paul) Tissier, Troy, IL, John (Bonnie) Cygan, Highland, IL, Michael Cygan, Valparaiso, IN; grandchildren, Danielle (Jacque) Delaney-Davis, Brendon (Jackie) Delaney, Jacqueline Tissier (fiance Andy McCammon), Paul Tissier IV, John Kyle Cygan, Taylor Nicole Cygan, Brittani Cygan Neff (Jarrett), Jonathan Cygan, and Zachary Cygan; great-grandchildren, Delaney Davis, Drake Delaney, Owen Neff, and Eli Neff; Jack’s sister, Emily Pope, Columbia, IL; Shirley’s brother, Luke (Karen) Schutzenhofter, Huntsville, AL; Sister, Patricia Switzer, Highland, IL; many nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Cygan; brothers, Stanley, Joseph, Edward, and Frances Skrabacz; sisters, Carolyn Wilson and Sophia Williams.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Luke and Rose Schutzenhofer.

    Memorials may be made to St. Paul Education Foundation, St. Adalbert Cemetery, or Highland Area Christian Service Ministry.

    Visitation:  Wednesday, December 2, 2015, from 2:00 to 8:00 pm and Thursday, December 3, 2015, from 8:00 to 10:00 am at St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, IL.

    Mass of Christian Burial:  Thursday, December 3, 2015 at 10:00 am at St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, IL.
