    Ida R. Gorrell, 91, of Highland, IL, died Saturday, July 16, 2016, at Faith Countryside Nursing Center, Highland, IL.

    Ida was born May 6, 1925, to Erwin Leo and Freida (nee Wagner) Bircher in Grantfork, IL. On November 25, 1944, she married Gerald Gorrell at the Evangelical United Church of Christ, Highland, IL.

    After graduating from Edwardsville High School, she worked at Miles Laboratory and St. Elizabeth Medical Center, both in Granite City. She was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ and the Women’s Guild, St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary, and senior citizens.

    Ida enjoyed her family, especially her granddaughter and great granddaughter. She loved gardening, quilting at her church, trips to the casino, bingo at the VFW, reading, working puzzles and PBJs on Friday with her granddaughter. She was a geneology expert for the Bircher Family and donated the family book to the Louis Latzer Library.

    She is survived by her son, Gary (Cheryl) Gorrell, Glen Carbon, IL; granddaughter, Jennifer (Austin) Tebbe, Maryville, IL; and great granddaughter, Linley Tebbe.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Erwin Leo and Freida Bircher; husband, Gerald Gorrell (Sep 14, 1989)

    Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Fund, Evangelical United Church of Christ, or Faith Countryside Nursing Center.

    Visitation: Thursday, July 21, 2016, from 9:00 to 11:00 am, at Evangelical United Church of Christ, Highland, IL.

    Funeral Service: Thursday,July 21, 2016, at 11:00 am, at the Church.

    Clergy: Rev. Chris Hill, Pastor.

    Interment: Highland City Cemetery.
