    Florence G. Reid, age 91 of West Salem, IL passed from this life to the next on May 15, 2019 at her home.

    Florence was born in Lancaster, IL on June 10, 1927 to Arthur and Ina (Smith) Higgins. She graduated from the West Salem High School and was one of the last two remaining graduates living. She married Hubert Reid on March 31, 1946 at the First Christian Church of West Salem and he preceded her on March 31, 1992.

    She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sons Donald and Larry, three sisters: Ruby Matthes, Violet Maves and Mildred Knackmuhs and one nephew, Robert Matthes.

    Left to cherish many wonderful memories are her daughter, Shirley Reid of Albion, IL, five grandchildren: Christopher (Terri) Baker of West Salem, Kimberly (Jason) Almiro of Plano, TX, Dustin (Dina) Reid of West Salem, Shannon (Doug) Rudd of Osteen,FL and Bruce (Breanna) Talley of Longwood, FL, several great and great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

    Florence was a member of the First Christian Church of West Salem, a charter member of the Pretty Woman Red Hatters’ Club established in 2003, and the TOPS Club for many years. She also assisted with the Edwards County Relay for Life. Florence was truly in her element when she was taking care of her family, and she especially enjoyed cooking for them.

    In her younger years, she enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing and traveling. She was an avid country music fan, she took pride in gardening, and she enjoyed eating out. Florence simply loved being on the go!

    A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11AM on Monday, May 20, 2019 at the Ingram-Meridith Funeral Home in West Salem, IL.

    A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10AM to service time.

    Burial will follow at the Moravian Cemetery in West Salem.
