    Elizabeth Bernadine Smith, 87, of Albion, IL passed from this life to the next at 3:17 p.m. on October 27, 2018 at Deaconess Midtown in Evansville, IN.

    She was born November 24, 1930 in Bennington, IL to Ola “Babe” (Elkins) and Clarence Gillard. She married Leonard Smith on June 20, 1953 in Edwards County, and he preceded her in death on December 24, 2016.

    Bernadine loved the Lord and her family. She was a bus driver for the Edwards County School District. She enjoyed reading her Bible and taking care of her family.

    She is survived by two daughters: Becky (John) Couch of Fairfield and Sherry (Jim) Colyer of Albion; a brother, Clayton Gillard of Streator, IL; six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; a son, David Gayer; two brothers: Grant Gillard and Junior Gillard; and a sister, Ilene Medler.

    Visitation will be held Friday, November 2, 2018 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Ingram-Meridith Funeral Home in Albion. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow at Graceland.

    Memorials may be made to the Edwards County Senior Citizens, and envelopes will be available at the service.

    Was so saddened to hear of the passing of your precious Mother. Enjoyed talking to her at the beauty shop! She was a very special lady!! Thinking of Becky,Sherry and their family!

    Becky and Sherry,

    I am so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing.

    I saw her, probably 3 or 4 months ago at Fairfield Walmart. I continued my shopping, thinking that I would run in to her again…I did not. She was just as beautiful now as she was back in the 70’s.

    You both were so blessed to have your parents as long as you did.

    A wonderful lady. Leonard and Bernadine were the best neighbors I ever had. She was truly a beautiful woman –inside and out.
