Elenora M. “Nora” Korte (Nee Wittmer), 94, of Lebanon, IL, born March 1, 1920, passed away Friday, February 13, 2015, at Lebanon Care Center, Lebanon, IL.
Nora was a homemaker who was dedicated to her family. She loved making large family meals and canning the vegetable from her huge garden and truck patch. An accomplished seamstress and quilter, she created many patchwork quilts from the material left from making her family’s clothes. She enjoyed playing cards but enjoyed being with her grandchildren more.
Nora was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Barbara (Nee Lauer) Wittmer; her brothers, Robert Wittmer and Arnold Wittmer; her sister Irma Saenger; son-in-law, Dale Fertig.
Surviving are her husband of 74 years, Sylvester Korte, Sr., Lebanon, IL; 1 daughter, Sylvia Fertig, Lebanon, IL; 2 sons, Sy (Kay) Korte, Lebanon, IL, Dennis (Martha) Korte, Lebanon, IL; grandchildren, Brian Fertig, Gary (Lisa) Fertig, Dr. Derek (Jen) Korte, Leah (Jeremy) Corbitt, Sarah Korte, Lauren Korte; 8 great-grandchildren, Evan Korte, Spencer Korte, Adam Korte, Kathryn Fertig, Kevin Fertig, Collin Fertig, Allison Corbitt, Joseph Corbitt; 1 brother, Irvin Wittmer, Edmond, OK; 1 sister, Grace (Fred) Cherry, Independence, MO.
Memorials may be made to Lebanon Fire Department, the Korte-Fertig Scholarship Fund – McKendree University, or St. Paul United Church of Christ.
The family would like to thank the Cedar Ridge Healthcare Center and Lebanon Care Center for their love and kindness the last 4 years.
