    Alan H. Korte, 77, of Lebanon, IL, died Sunday, May 25, 2014, at Lebanon Care Center, Lebanon, IL.

    He was born in Watertown, New York, on September 23, 1936, to Louis A. and Janet (nee Foster) Korte of Dexter, New York.  He graduated from Waldwick High School in New Jersey in 1954, and attended Denison University in Granville, Ohio, graduating in 1958 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology.  He received a Master’s Degree with honors from Columbia University in New York City in 1962.  He taught English, Literature, Drama, and Journalism at several colleges and universities, including Simpson College, Indianola, Iowa, Bowling Green State University in Ohio, St. Lawrence University in New York State, and others.  He was a professional photographer for many years in Carthage, IL.  He retired in 2001 and moved to Lebanon, IL 

    He enjoyed many hobbies, including cooking, sailing, singing, and especially reading.  He was an aspiring artist and a canny art critic.  He had a special interest in community theater and directed plays. 

    He sang with the Metro East Community Chorale for several years and was a lifelong Unitarian and a lifelong Democrat.

    On June 15, 1963, he married M. Elizabeth Budd in Indianola, Iowa, and she survives.  Also surviving are his two children, daughter Jennifer (Brandt) Gormley of St. Louis, MO, and son Jeff (Joni) Korte of St. Louis, MO; four grandchildren, Ava Sarfaty, Seth Gormley, Maura Korte, and Lana Korte.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; Grandmother Mabel Foster; and Aunt Edith Foster.

    Memorials may be made to the Metro East Community Chorale.

    Visitation:  Saturday, May 31, 2014, from 12:00 to 2:00 pm, at Meyer Funeral Home, Lebanon, IL.

    Funeral Service:  Saturday, May 31, 2014, at 2:00 pm at Meyer Funeral Home, Lebanon, IL.

    Interment:  At a later date in Dexter Cemetery, Dexter, New York.
